スポットに捧ぐ データ少佐の詩

スタートレック・ネクストジェネレーションのデータ少佐が愛猫スポットに捧げた詩です。
魚政さんにおしえていただきました。

かのキーツからジョーカモに至るまで、詩人はみなかれらの人生に大きな影響を与えたひとに詩を捧げています。
この伝統に則って、次の詩を私のネコに捧げます。
　

タイトルは、”スポットに捧げる”
　

”フィリス・カタス”
それがお前の正式な学名

四足歩行の動物
生まれながらに肉食

おまえの視覚、嗅覚、そして聴覚は
狩猟能力と防衛に
非常に役に立つ

お前たちネコの、声にならないのどの振動は
コミュニケーション法として非常に興味深い

気まぐれという定説を覆すように
リズミカルに背中をなでると
振動で愛情を示す

アクロバットの才能には
そのしっぽは欠かせない

優れた平衡感覚
敏捷性もしっぽゆえ

動きの一助として
使われていないときには

しっぽは感情をあらわす道具として
使用される

おお　スポット
お前の複雑な行動様式に
よく発達した認識システムを想う

ひとの言語を解さず

スポットよ

意思は伝わらないが、
にもかかわらず、お前は
本当の
大切な友人だ

Throughout the ages,from Keats to Jorkemo
poets have composed odes to individuals
who have had a profound effect upon their lives.
In keeping with that tradition
I have written my next poem in honor of my cat.

I call it "Ode to Spot."

"Felis catus
is your taxonomic nomenclature
"an endothermic quadruped,
carnivorous by nature

"your visual,olfactory
and auditory senses
"contribute　to your hunting skills
"and natural defenses.

"I find myself intrigued
"by your subvocal oscillations
"a singular development
of cat communications

"that obviates your basic
hedonistic predilection
"for a rhythmic stroking of your fur
"to demonstrate affection.

"A tall is quite essential
for your acrobatic talents.
"You would not be so agile
if you lacked its counterbalance.

"And when not being utilized
to aid in locomotion
"it often serves to illustrate
the state of your emotion..."

"Oh, Spot, the complex levels
of behavior you display
"connote a fairly well-developed
cognitive array.

"And though you are not sentient,Spot
"and do not comprehend
I, nonetheless, consider you
a true and valued friend."
